Jason Statham faces against the megalodon again in the first trailer for Meg 2: The Trench

Ben Wheatley’s Meg 2: The Trench trailer gives us dinosaurs, big sharks and Jason Statham – what more could you ask for?
2018’s The Meg had a winning formula; big, prehistoric shark and Jason Statham going head to head. That’s all you really needed, yet there simply wasn’t enough shark action in the film. Granted, it was never going to be Jaws, but give the people what they want: Sharks! Blood! Guts!

Judging from the first trailer, Meg 2: The Trench is here to fix that. The sequel, directed by British cult director Ben Wheatley, unleashes all kinds of monsters from the deep.
Statham returns to play rescue diver Jonas Taylor and is joined by Chinese megastar Wu Jing. After a brief intro of a meg devouring a T-Rex, we see Taylor leading an exploratory dive deep into the ocean in the trailer. The group comes across not one, not two, but three massive sharks and the biggest ever megalodon.

Before they know it, the sharks are wreaking havoc at a tourist spot. Yikes! Meg 2: The Trench looks entertaining and silly, with a touch of camp and that’s exactly what a film like this should be.
Jon Hoeber, Erich Hoeber, and Dean Georgaris have penned the script for Meg 2, based on Steve Alten’s 1999 novel, The Trench. Wheatley has made a name for himself as a British maestro of horror and thriller with films like Kill List, In The Earth and A Field In England. Meg 2 seems to incorporate his impeccable sense of humour and vicious gore. We can only hope Meg 2 is more satisfying than its predecessor and the trailer seems to suggest so.

Meg 2: The Trench is scheduled to be released in cinemas August 4.
