Female version of James Bond? Director comments on Gal Gadot’s approach to Heart of Stone
Not much is known about Heart of Stone yet , other than some footage shared during 2022’s TUDUM that hinted at a ” James Bond ” mood for the Netflix film .
The suggestion, by the way, was precise, because as director Tom Harper highlighted for Entertainment Weekly , his spy film will show Gal Gadot in the skin of a character that subtly refers to some concepts from the 007 films .
Despite the inspiration, Harper assured that Heart of Stone tells an original story, with a character who will have an identity of her own.
“There were a few things that immediately excited me, the first being that it was an original film in a genre that is full of great franchises, like Mission: Impossible, James Bond, or Bourne. I love those movies, but they’ve all been around for decades, so working on something that’s an addition to that genre, in an original way, felt really exciting.” Harper said .
Heart of Stone revolves around elite agent Rachel Stone (Gal Gadot), who harbors a secret even bigger than her MI6 career: She is the only woman standing between an ultra-mysterious, powerful, global, and peacekeeping, and the loss of its most valuable – and dangerous – asset, the Heart.
The screenplay is under the responsibility of Greg Rucka , from the success The Old Guard , and Allison Schroeder , known for All Stars Beyond Time . Tom Harper (Peaky Blinders, The Aeronauts) is directing.
Gal Gadot stars in the film that aims to be a female take on spy franchises like James Bond and Mission: Impossible .
Heart of Stone premieres August 11 on Netflix .
